Families
Qualifications:
MSc in Family Therapy
BA in Psychology
Richard offers 90-minute family therapy consultations for families in need of
a safe space and a kind, non-judgemental input.
Families can experience a number of benefits from engaging in a family consultation.
A joint family session can offer:
- An opportunity to have all voices in the family heard and validated
- The development of the skills required to improve communication within the family
- A chance for family members to share their unique views and to thereby learn something new about one another that may change perspectives about the problem
- A chance to look at the problem from a number of different angles and thereby to find new ways forward
Richard's sessions are appropriate for families where one or more members are experiencing a mental or emotional health difficulty and where concerns around risks to safety are low.
Richard has worked with families of many shapes and sizes and from many diverse backgrounds.
While it is preferred for everyone in the family to attend the consultation(s), we also understand the logistical difficulties that may make this a challenge and are flexible around this. Richard is happy to work with any and all family members who are keen to engage.
From Richard:
"I am originally from America and have lived and worked in the UK for the last 17 years.
I am a married father of two children and I love to spend most of my free time with my family.
I chose to become a family therapist because I believe when family members are better ‘in touch’ with one another and themselves, this can be the greatest resource for change and healing."
Richard’s Master’s degree thesis was a systematic review of the literature in the field of anorexia nervosa treatment. This research focussed on Expressed Emotion as a predictor of therapeutic outcomes for adolescents with anorexia nervosa.
