Qualifications:
Masters in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling

Sophie is an experienced psychotherapist with specialist expertise in working with adults and couples. She is especially passionate about working with attachment and relational issues, as well as addressing unhealthy or maladaptive behaviours and managing difficult or overwhelming emotions. Sophie has a comprehensive background in the field of trauma and substance misuse, and in providing support for those affected by sexual, emotional or domestic violence or abuse. Her extensive experience also includes working with clients impacted by the criminal justice system, making her well-equipped to handle complex and interconnected issues. She’s compassionate and understanding of the situations clients may find themselves in. She has a warm and welcoming manner and helps clients to feel seen, heard and at ease within her sessions.

As an existential psychotherapist, Sophie embraces a pragmatic approach to therapy. She offers hope by encouraging clients to accept life's limitations and boundaries, while seeing their potential to grow and evolve, allowing them to be shaped by their future choices, actions and relationships. Sophie sees the benefits of re-examining responses and reactions to past events to aid her clients' learning and understanding, allowing them to respond more positively towards events in their future.

Sophie has worked widely with those battling anxiety, depression, low-mood, low self-esteem and who are feeling overwhelmed. She's experienced in supporting clients with complex health conditions, life-limiting illnesses and those overcoming trauma. She appreciates the pull we face in our day-to-day lives and the pressures of juggling multiple pressing responsibilities.

Throughout her work, Sophie's primary aim is to provide clients with a safe, supportive and reparative therapeutic relationship. She emphasises that individuals exist in connection with others, and are always part of the broader world, so she helps them to see where they 'fit'. She is incredibly passionate about her work, and about supporting her clients as they examine their difficulties and find positive pathways forwards and believes that the therapeutic relationship, rooted in connection, reciprocity, and curiosity, serves as a microcosm of the world around us.
